Senior Digital Strategist - Limited Duration

Position Summary

The Senior Digital Strategist role requires an individual with first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of political campaigns, confidence in motivating teammates and driving projects, experience planning and implementing digital advertising campaigns, and, ultimately, an interest in representing Winning Mark to our clients on a daily basis. The Senior Digital Strategist will specifically:

  • Independently build and maintain digital persuasion advertising programs for candidate, ballot measure, and independent expenditure campaign clients
  • Routinely act as the lead digital consultant for assigned projects, providing strategic advice and explaining advertising strategies to campaign managers, candidates, and funders on calls, via email, etc.
  • Develop creative strategies and concepts for projects, including copywriting for graphics, social copy, and video scripts – and providing clear feedback to design team members throughout the process.
  • Ensure advertising messaging, audiences, and timing aligns with the client’s objectives, priority audiences, poll-tested messaging, and campaign budget
  • Create detailed advertising budgets (broken out by week, platform, etc.) tailored to campaigns of all sizes rooted in available inventory, expected advertising rates, optimal frequency, etc.
  • Present, pitch, and refine digital media plans to clients, campaigns, and funders
  • Oversee the management of complex projects, multiple vendors, and large teams to deliver high-quality results
  • Produce, track, and manage campaign plans, budgets, invoices and timelines
  • Represent Winning Mark on calls, Zooms, and meetings with clients 
  • Distill knowledge of ad placement, creative strategy, and reporting across pre-roll, OTT, multi-channel social, and other programmatic platforms for clients
  • Collaborate effectively across internal teams to leverage expertise

Required Skills

The person who will be successful in this position is someone capable of producing high-quality work in a fast-paced, complex, and project-based environment. Because of this, we are seeking an individual with a strong drive and proactive work ethic who can take ownership of and accountability for client projects. We are looking for someone with superior project management, leadership, and technical skills, including:

  • 3+ years of experience working in a digital advertising role  on behalf of a political campaign or consultancy
  • Experience working with BIPOC-led organizations and campaigns to develop culturally relevant communications, creative, and advertising strategies
  • A commitment to advancing equity
  • Ability to be responsive to client needs, deadline-driven, and prioritizes tasks without oversight
  • Takes ownership of the success of multiple projects at the same time, including taking initiative when it comes to projects, client relationships, and presentations
  • Collaborates well across teams
  • An interest in state and local politics, particularly issue advocacy, legislative, and ballot measure/candidate campaigns
  • An interest in following the latest trends, studies, and literature relating to voter contact, persuasion, and mobilization
  • The ability to ask thoughtful questions and strategically solve problems with a positive and flexible attitude

  • Speak fluent Spanish (native speaker) with clear, effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Have overseen or directly managed digital media buys for candidates, independent expenditures, ballot measures, or issue advocacy campaigns. 
  • Experience working with TV/digital video vendors on concepting, recruitment, and day-of filming a plus

Position Details

Term: This position will start as a full-time Limited Duration role in support of our 2022 election work. Duration:  July – December 1,  2022 with pay and benefits through December 31st, 2022. Toward the end of this period, we will make assessments about whether to offer full-time employment on an ongoing basis into 2023 and beyond. 

Location: Winning Mark’s office is located in SE Portland, Oregon. Our team is currently in a hybrid remote model with no mandatory in-person work. Vaccination against COVID-19 is required to work in person. We are open to considering candidates living outside of Portland, Oregon, who would continue to work remotely full time. Many of our clients’ campaigns have critical, time-sensitive deadlines including policy decisions, crisis management, and elections. As a result, there are times when project teams work long and irregular hours (including evenings and weekends) on behalf of our clients.

Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position. Base salary: $6,250 – $7,500/month, with an additional $335/month in additional compensation as outlined below.
