Controller

The Controller role requires an individual who thrives when managing projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented, environment. This position is an opportunity to contribute finance expertise and leadership to Winning Mark’s Business Administration team. The Controller will specifically:

  • Organize and plan all accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll functions
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, especially for resource allocation, pricing decisions, proposal development, and contract negotiations
  • Manage financial banking relationships
  • Support and improve programs and project budgeting practices
  • Manage team members responsible for financial data entry, invoicing and fulfilling accounts payable; ensure transactions completed consistently, accurately, and in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain appropriate financial and accounting processes, and manage Quickbooks Enterprise update
  • Revise and maintain the chart of accounts; ensure the adequacy of accounting practices and handling of funds, internal controls and reporting
  • Support employee compensation and benefit planning with analysis, market research, and financial modeling
  • Provide regularly scheduled financial information to the executive team and owners, including projections and forecasts; monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; and cash position and management
  • Analyze and evaluate costs of goods and operating margins; make relevant recommendations to management
  • Work directly with CPAs to oversee all tax responsibilities and prepare annual tax returns
  • Review and advise on risk and company insurance coverage
  • May receive assignments well outside normal job description or chain of command during busier periods of the business cycle

 

Who we are looking for: We seek an individual with personality, drive and a proactive work ethic who will excel in an evolving landscape of a rapidly growing company with an exceptional reputation and track record. A successful Controller will provide financial transparency to the executive team, owners and financial advisors. We are looking for someone with the following background:

  • 5+ years experience managing accounting functions, ideally for high-growth businesses
  • A bachelor’s, MBA, or master’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration. A bachelor’s degree in a closely related field or a combination of extensive experience and education/certification may be considered; CPA or CMA a plus
  • Must have a commitment to advancing equity, including but not limited to, lived experience and/or thoughtful work supporting historically marginalized communities
  • Has exceptional organizational and analytical skills — this role will be primarily internal-facing, requiring navigation of different work styles, opinions, and objectives
  • Is not afraid to ask questions, make proactive observations,  recommend solutions, and take initiative
  • Must be extremely detail- and process-oriented while understanding how to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Must be able to learn the nuances of our business, industry, complex projects
  • Committed to completing projects and going above and beyond, even under difficult circumstances
  • Enjoys working with a team and is committed to the success and goals of the team and company

 

Experience working in a fast-paced atmosphere is a plus, and a commitment to periodically working long hours is a must. At the same time, we strive to promote balance in the workplace, including flexible hours and working remotely when appropriate. The ability to work well within this system, including as a good steward of a flexible work environment, is essential. 

 

Position Details

This will be a full-time, exempt position. Base salary is commensurate with experience. Winning Mark offers a robust benefits package including:

  • Base Salary: $75,000 – $96,000; commensurate with experience
  • 100% employer-paid platinum health & dental package
  • $150/month transportation / home office allotment
  • $115/month wellness allotment
  • $70/month cell phone allotment
  • 15 Vacation days per year to start 
  • 10 Sick days per year
  • Additional Personal Leave days
  • 16 Paid Holidays (Including a week off at the end of the year)

 

Due to the pandemic, we are currently operating as a fully remote company. When it’s safe to reopen, this role will report to our new office in SE Portland.
