We work for a more humane world.
How we treat animals says a lot about what kind of people we are. That’s why we help elect leaders and pass ballot initiatives that stand up for animal protection.
Passing California's Historic Prop. 2
Because it is America’s largest agricultural state, the passage of California’s 2008 Proposition 2 was one of the nation’s most significant victories for animal protection. It created a new state law that prohibits the confinement of farm animals in a manner that does not allow them to turn around freely, lie down, stand up, and fully extend their limbs. Our award-winning direct mail program signed up animal protection advocates to vote by mail, helping ensure a record turnout for the measure.
Electing the Protectors
Animals can’t vote, so it’s important that people who care about animal protection do. We have worked with the Humane Society Legislative Fund in 26 states to support elected officials who stand up for the humane treatment of animals, and to oppose those who don’t. We target a combination of HSLF members and those who are likely to care about animal protection in federal and state races across the nation.
