Pollie-winning pig brings in voters for the Humane Society of the United States
During the 2006 election cycle, the Humane Society of the United States sponsored Arizona's Proposition 204, which would require that pigs and calves be housed in decent conditions. The measure, aimed at factory farming operations which keep animals in truly horrific conditions, prevailed despite being heavily outspent by the opposition. One of the priorities of this campaign was to ensure that pro-animal protection people made it to the polls. Some initial work showed that there was a real risk of the base missing the election. Save Darfur Coalition featured in Washington Post

Winning Mark's work with the Save Darfur Coalition was featured in the Washington Post earlier this week, with a special emphasis placed on the effectiveness of the Coalition's print ads and direct mail.
"Lobbying groups regularly get their way in Washington, but few have had as much impact in a short period as the Save Darfur Coalition, an organization that has been pressing for international intervention in war-torn Sudan.
Over the past two years, it has flooded lawmakers' inboxes with pleas for assistance, filled the Mall with protesters and blanketed the airwaves with heart-rending commercials. One ad showed photos of anguished, starving Sudanese and asked, 'How will history judge us?'" Read more...

“Voter Advisory, Contains Actual Information” – Sam Adams for City Council
While Sam Adams was a first time candidate for public office, he did have some profile in the media and among insiders having served for 12 years as Chief of Staff to Mayor Vera Katz. This profile was not necessarily a plus: to the extent that voters were aware of him, the only things they knew about Sam were his reputation as a hardnosed technocrat serving a Mayor whose numbers had declined significantly and that, if elected, Sam would be the first openly gay City Council member. Falcon Schools, Colorado Springs
El Paso County’s Falcon School District 49 is one of the fastest growing school districts in Colorado. Located in Colorado Springs, every one of the district’s schools were at or above capacity, with over 20,000 new students expected over the next 10 years. The problem? Colorado Springs notoriously anti-tax voters had rejected a number of funding measures to ease the overcrowding and build for the future. Working closely with campaign manager Kjersten Forseth, Winning Mark devised a direct mail and radio program that connected the urgent needs of the schools with the basic value of public schools to the community. The result was an upset victory after previous defeats. Read more...
