The Case Against Cars

We all know that alternatives to single-car-occupancy have beneficial impacts on the environment, but keep in mind the positive effects to be had on all of our psyches: Studies show that long commutes make us unhappy!

This GIF alone reaffirms my switch from 2-hour-a-day-freeway-commuter to public-transit-bike-and-sometimes-walker. (I’m an Angeleno lucky enough to now live in a city where I can take advantage of public transit and other forms of transportation.)

Famous Photos Reimagined as Selfies

Lowe South Africa developed a campaign for the Cape Times newspaper last spring in which famous photographs—the wartime kiss, Beyers Naude and Desmond Tutu, Winston Churchill smoking, etc.—were reimagined as selfies.

The Atlantic.com’s Infocus has curated a collection of the amazing photography coming out of the massive protests in Egypt over the weekend.

The photos, which include a mix of mainstream media and individual twitter accounts, documented riot police and military units descending on the square, breaking up encampments, making arrests, brutally beating some, and firing tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd killing 23 and injuring over 1,000 protesters.
